Downgrading to an Older (Stable) Release
From Textpattern CMS User Documentation
Downgrading Overview
This will likely only be of interest to someone who is trying to use a latest prerelease of Textpattern (e.g. version 1.0rc1) with a particular Web host whose server protocols are by default seemingly incompatible with the said Textpattern prerelease, and in particular, if you are trying to run your site with clean URLs. (E.g., this has been the case with people using Textpattern version 1.0rc1 on Dreamhost servers.) This section is offered only to provide such users a way of stepping back and being functional until a later stable release of Textpattern is made (which might hopefully solve any prerelease issues).
The Process
There is no need to reinstall the older version of Textpattern, just do the following:
- You will need to get an older (stable) version of Textpattern, which currently is version 1.19. Two file packages are available for downloading as follows:
- ZIP...textpattern.com/deanload/textpattern_g119.zip (Windows and Mac OS-X)
- Tar Gzip...textpattern.com/deanload/textpattern_g119.tgz (Unix and Mac OS-X)
- Copy the contents (files and folders) of the older Textpattern package over your existing prerelease structure; EXCEPT your config.php file (i.e., /textpattern/config.php) -- using your existing config.php file is what prevents you from having to reinstall.
- Open your Web browser and navigate to the update.php file (i.e., /textpattern/update.php) to run the update.
There have been advanced hacking methods successfully employed by Textpattern users trying to use version 1.0rc1 on Dreamhost servers to circumvent downgrading (see such discussion by jamessvl in this thread, 8 posts down), but unless you are experienced at such stuff, the downgrade approach may be best for you until a stable release comes out.
